Easy Tex-Mex Chili Mac Recipe

I had leftover burger meat in the fridge and cavatappi pasta in the cupboard, so there was no doubt that they needed to be combined with a tomato sauce.

Enter: My easy Tex-Mex chili mac recipe, which is almost like goulash — only spicier!

This dish is quick to prepare in under 30 minutes. Also, any pasta will work. I just prefer the helical tube shaped style.


  • 8 ounces or 2 cups cavatappi pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes
  • 1 large jalapeno
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 1/2 lb ground chuck or sirloin
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot Mexican style chili powder
  • 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 1 12 ounce can crushed tomatoes

Boil water in a large pot. Add cavatappi and cook until al dente.

While cooking pasta, add olive oil into large pot. Add burger meat, chopped onion, jalepano, garlic, cumin, cayenne pepper, and hot Mexican style chili powder. Cook for 5 minutes.

Add crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Stir. Cook until meat is done.

After pasta is done, drain, and add to sauce and heat.
